I’d never thought I’d run this race again. After dealing with horrible logistics in 2010 and again in 2011 I swore I was done with San Diego Rock N’ Roll. I hated running on the 163 and the finish at Sea World was miserable. I do not exaggerate. It’s not fun trying to get out of that place when 30,000 other people are trying to do the same thing.
And then they changed the course.
And I was tempted.
I knew I was running Ojai so I hesitated.
And then I was offered an opportunity to run it. Done. Challenge accepted.

The race is this Sunday, June 2nd. Registration is still available at the Expo today and tomorrow. I believe the half is now $165, Full $175 and Relay $195. I heard Jamba Juice is handing out smoothies at the finish so if that doesn’t get ya maybe the course will.
The half course looks to be fast (no freeway running, YES!):
The full offers the challenge of getting over the hill at mile 21 and then it’s all downhill :
Both courses finish downtown next to Petco Park. If you haven’t had the chance to hang out downtown SD it’s pretty darn nice.
Bonus? Padres are in town all weekend so you can hit up a game while you’re here. Tickets are cheap. CHEAP.

My only concern is getting to the start. Options are limited and with the early start time of 6 am, getting to SD at the BCOD is pretty much the only option. There is parking available downtown but the walk to the start is all uphill. Not ideal right before a race. What to do, what to do. Fingers crossed that public transportation is going to be ready.
I am really hoping that the changes to the race are going to be for the better. If you are in town this weekend come join me before sunrise for a little 13.1 mile jog through my old neighborhood.
What?
You didn’t think I was going to run back to back fulls did you? Come on, I’m still celebrating my 3:3o!!
I was going to run it this weekend as well, but canceled because my sons baseball team made it to the playoffs. I have won free tickets to The Spirit of the Marathon2.. I need to redeem the voucher at the RnR expo (obviously not going to be there) would you like them?? I can forward the email to you?? Let me know
Aww man! Darn! Totally understand the baseball commitment. No playoffs for the 6 year olds so we are done for at least a month ๐ I already hit up the expo, darn it! I am about 35-40 min from downtown with no traffic so I went first thing this morning since Sat traffic is usually bad! Bummmmmmerrrrrrrr
Yeah!! Good luck! I have a friend coming from TX to run it this wknd too!! Ahh I have to run it one of these days ๐
Yes you do!! Come to SD!! I think I am going to run TX next year. Just trying to find the right race at the right time. That’s tough to do ๐
YAY!!!!! I’ll be there (hippie boy toy is running, I’ll just be decorative ;))!!! If you decide to park at the start, I’m at 3rd and Redwood and you can park there and walk over. We were trying to figure out what to do about start/finish logistics too…
I hope I get to see you!!!
Yay hope to see you!! I don’t understand why they can’t come up with a smart way to get to the start/finish. They are basically asking everyone to walk. Can’t wait to hear the complaints from out of towners that walked 2 miles uphill to the start lol!! Miss u mama!!!

Jamba Juice? I thought I saw something about strawberry daquiri’s at the finish? Too early? ๐
heheheheh!!! Now that would be a par-tay!! See you tomorrow!!
I wanted to run San Diego too so I could check out the course but it would have been too much for me. I did not run a 3:30 (like some bad ass did :)) but I definitely had a great run in Ojai! Have a great race!
Thanks my friend! I will run for both of us ๐ Back to backs are tough- we need rest!!
Cool! Actually, I wouldn’t have been too surprised if you did back-to-back marathons (though this one NOT for a PR, of course). Glad you have the opportunity to do the new course!
Hey friend! I just don’t think my legs are ready to try back to back weekends of 26.2. I also didn’t want to take away from all of the hard work put in last weekend ๐ Still want to bask in PR glory ๐
