It ain’t easy being cheesy. Especially when it’s windy and the run sweat factor brings down the temp by at least 10 degrees. Yes there is such a thing as run sweat factor. It’s like wind chill but worse. OK, probably not worse but it felt like it yesterday.
Saturday’s Run
Met Stacey and Sharon at 6:30 at The Rock to get some early miles in before the rest of the crew got there. It was windy and chilly and it looked like it was going to rain. We got going and for whatever reason this run felt fast. Much faster than it was.
We finished 6.15 in 50 min. Average pace 8:07.Β
That pace felt like a 6:30 to me. And I still had more miles to do. Ruh-roh Rorge.
We had a really big group show up yesterday! At least 30 people!! SO AWESOME. If you are in SD and ever want to run with us please let me know. We would love to have you. Oh, it’s free. No strings attached. Friends, running, prayer, food, fun.
We took off for the last leg of our run.Β
6.05 miles in 53 min. 8:45 pace into a very mean headwind. Big boo. But good training right? I’ll keep telling myself that.
Total Saturday miles: 12.20 in 1:43. Overall average pace 8:26.
Sounds like a taper to me.
This weeks miles:
Sunday: 16 miles
Monday: Cross Train
Tuesday: 5.75
Wednesday: Cross train
Thursday: 6 miles
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 12.20
Total Miles: 39.95
This Week:
I am going to focus on getting this old body of mine back on track. Lately every run has felt much more difficult than usual. Not sure why but we all go through these phases. Every run is not easy. Every run it not fast.
So…Today rest, Monday easy, Tuesday speed work, Weds cross train, Thursday 5 mile race (am going to run it as a tempo run), Friday rest, Saturday 10ish miles.
I am so very happy that I have a short week at work, get to wear jeans (say what?) and get to have a big, awesome feast with my family on Thursday (after we all run). Woooohoooo!
What are your plans this week? Do you have time off? Running? Eating? Hibernating?
Awesome job! I’ll get some running/cross training in then I’ll be in Georgia meeting the boyfriend’s family & getting some grub & much needed r&r! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Awww that sounds like fun! Enjoy your R&R!! Happy Thanksgiving π
I HATE running against the wind and usually do everything I can to avoid it π Enjoy your taper and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
The wind is definitely not my friend! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
I really wish I could come run with you! Headwind really is SO good for training but so hard at the time. Have the most amazing feast ever!
Me too! If you end up in SD we will run together for sure π Happy Turkey Day!
Doing the Turkey Trot in Dallas with the fam then “refueling” the rest of the day π — P.S. What are you wearing in Vegas? Will it be freezing at night there?
Ahhhh I wonder if any of my hubs’ family is doing that Turkey Trot. I’ll have to ask! I think it’s going to be cold in Vegas. I have been watching the weather and it’s been getting down into the 40s. I think I am going with tights and a long sleeve. I will probably bring a few different things since you never know what you’re going to get in the desert π Happy Thanksgiving!
Cheeessseee. Is that a reference to Old School? Freaking love the movie. Now I have to watch it. Maybe t-day.
So, I feel like I always feel like dog-turd during a taper if I have busted my arse beforehand. So, if you had crazy mileage beforehand I think it’s normal to feel tired. I’ll bet next week you’ll feel like a million bucks.
Turkey day this year is a solo event – just the husband and myself. My parents are in Italy (some business with the census and my mother’s residency and having to be there). But looking forward to the Trot! Love that race – hopefully they didn’t screw up my t-shirt since I actually splurged and upgraded to the sleeveless.
I.love.old.school. Freaking hilarious!
I hope this is just recovery slowness and not me going into complete suck mode.
See you on Thursday sister. I upgraded Lane’s shirt but not mine. How cheap am I? LOL! I heard we might get some rain??? This is a fun race so I hope the weather is nice to us π
Oh, and headwind made my very cranky today. I did 18 – the first 9 were against the wind and several times I said out loud “C’mon! Give me a break already!” It was so nice to turn around and not run into the wind.
Way to go on 18!! Woohooo! You will be so ready for Carlsbad.
When I walked outside this morning I couldn’t believe how windy it was. I thought yesterday was bad but today was way worse. I give you serious props because I think I would have turned around after 1, lol.
lol I love that your running group had 30 people show up!!!!!! wow! and your millage is impressive….here I was excited about 21 week total. lol wind does make runs feel hard. I always try to find trails or routes that have more cover, but sometimes I brave it b/c I assume it makes us stronger π
I am in SD. I would love to run with your group. Although, I am waaaay slower than you. I’ll be chasing you with my 9:30 min/mile pace. I am also doing RNR LV but just the half. We are actually renewing my vows at mile 2 of the race course. http://conquering26-2.blogspot.com/2011/09/renewing-our-vows-at-rock-n-roll-las.html Woo Hoo! Since you are so fast, maybe you see us on your way back. The run-through chapel is at the Mirage Volcano, starting at 6:20pm ( just in case). I am also doing “Thank You Run 10k” for Thanksgiving and the Jingle Run later on. Good luck!!
Come run with us! We have all ages, paces, abilities, runners, walkers…you name it!
I hope I get to see you renew your vows! It’s at mile 15ish I think so I might just make it depending on how I am doing. My MP is not super fast so we will see!!
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Great job! I’ll be doing my normal workouts this week and then doing a 5K Thursday morning.
Jen, good luck on your 5k! It always feels so good to run and then enjoy the rest of the day!
Have a blessed Turkey Day with your family!
so sad i missed you two lovely ladies on saturday! i think it’s good that you just take it easy- pretty sure your body is asking for a little rest. happy turkey day and see you soon!
Thanks! This will be the first year I don’t eat myself into a coma and pass out on the couch. I’m excited about actually doing something that day!
Have a blessed day as well with your family!!
I WISH I lived in SD – you may have headwinds but we have snow here in NY…and lots of it! Not yet, but it’s inevitable. π
I took some time off last week. I don’t know why but the 15K I ran on 11/13 really knocked the wind out of me. It wasn’t until yesterday where I truly felt like I didn’t have to slog through a short run. I’ve felt better after half marathons than I felt all last week after that 15K race. With that said, I’m trying to get back on track! I think it was a combo of the race itself, having a small cold, and really just figuring out where I want to be…slowing down and enjoying myself rather than placing all sorts of crazy demands on my running. I even went so far as to break up with the little Map My Run person that whispers my splits and speed to me when I’m chugging along. BIG step for me!
Happy Thanksgiving!
You are 100% right! I have no room to complain. EVER! I grew up in 4 seasons and moved to SD so that I could live in 2…maybe 3. While I love visiting the snow I do not miss ice on my widshield or frozen pipes! I’ll take our windy weather anytime.
Sounds like you and I have both had a funky few weeks. I love that you broke up with your Map My Run pacer. I need to do that. Likely after Vegas. It is so much more enjoyable to just run without a care in the world.
Wishing you and yours a happy Thanksgiving!!
Heyyyyy, it’s collllld in San Diego! (Or maybe we’re just wimps. π And guess what? We had over 40 people on Saturday! Love our runners. π
I would love some info about your running group! I am trying to become a more social runner (as opposed to running always by myself!) so perhaps a running group is the way to go?? My work schedule changes every week it would be great to have some options when I am off! π
this is a recovery week from the marathon, so i’m hoping for some good yoga and weights!
living in miami, the weather in Philly was a serious shock to my system! so I understand the being cold when the rest of the country is wishing for your weather
Oh girl, that sounds so cold, haha! I am such a wuss – I like to be nice and comfy inside where it’s warm. π
