Friends Ecourage Friends To Run 20 Miles

I Had Zero Motivation

When my alarm went off at 6 am on Saturday I couldn’t remember why I had it set. I think that is the first sign of being overly tired. I hit snooze, rolled over and went back to sleep. 5 minutes later it went off again. NO! Why is my alarm set on a Saturday? And then I remembered. I needed to get 20 miles in and in order to do that and run with the Rock Runners I needed to get out of the door. Immediately. 20 miles. Today? Really? So.tired.

I finally dragged myself out of the sack around 7. Too late to get any miles in before heading down to Point Loma. Tweeted that my body was yelling at me for rest. I just felt lazy and coffee sounded so good. Thought about going back to bed…and then…5 weeks til Vegas flashed in my mind. Oh yeah. Better muster up a positive attitude.

Ran my first 6 with Stacey and Randa. Love these two ladies! There is nothing like running with friends. The miles go by so much faster when you are chatting. When I say chatting we were yapping for all 6 miles. It was awesome. Doesn’t hurt that we had this view once again

We finished at 6.03 and I knew I had another 14 to go. I am telling you that I wasn’t feeling it. Doubt set it. Sat and talked with my girlfriends for a few. They both encouraged me to get it done. Annnnd I knew Stacey would check on me to see if I did it. I LOVE when friends hold me accountable. Not only in running but in life. Those friends are friends for life.

Soooooo I decided since I lacked motivation I’d rather be safe than sorry. I headed to Chuze and busted out my last 14.10 on a treadmill. I set the incline at 1% and pounded out the last 14.10 in 1:47. I took a gel at mile 5 and 10. I did take one quick potty break. When my legs started to feel tired I sped the treadmill up. I have always been told that when leg fatigue sets in to run faster and utilize different muscle fibers. Around mile 11 I was so ready to be done- then an old friend from the gym showed up to teach a class and talked me through the last 3 miles.Β

I.freaking.did.it. On a day that I really didn’t feel like it. YES!

Total miles 20.13, total combined time 2:46. Overall average pace 8:17.

I needed that run. Needed it. It gave me a total attitude adjustment. I am feeling a lot better about 26.2 in Vegas. 5 weeks!

And Then There Was Pizza

After chillaxing for a few hours I rounded up the troops and we headed to THE BLIND LADY PIZZA AND ALE HOUSEΒ on Adams Ave.

There were so many people dressed up for Halloween, including the staff! The kids thought it was awesome.

As always the food/drinks were sooooo good! This place is always busy, the staff is always friendly and the kids (and LD) can be as loud as they want and no one bats an eye. Did I mention how freaking good their salad and pizza is?! THE BEST. You can check their menu and read about how they like to keep it local and organic by clicking HERE. This is by far my favorite pizza joint in San Diego. (Pizza Port is a close second- but they are two totally different places. I really can’t compare the two because their food/drinks are so different.) If you are local, or come to SD for vacay you NEED to go to Blind Lady at least once. You will not regret it.

  1. Great job on the mileage! Sometimes it is SO HARD to get going, but, as they say…you never regret a workout. Too many times I have talked myself out of a workout and felt horrible about it the rest of the day. Such good friends you have!

And, you ran over a half marathon on a treadmill…you are now my hero πŸ˜‰

    1. It’s the get going part, you’re right. When its nice and cool in the morning drinking coffee often sounds like a great plan, lol!

The last 14 on the TM was not easy. At least outside the scenary changes- inside is a whole different story. At least there was a bathroom, lol!

  2. I have a 20 miler today. My longest run ever. I look up to you SO much as an athlete and can’t wait until I (hopefully) train up to your pace! Seriously way to freaking go πŸ™‚ you killed it!

  3. You are amazing! Somehow in our convo yesterday I missed the 14 miles on a TM detail. I can only hope one day to have your dedication. I am my worst enemy, but I will say I never thought I would be running 13.1 with no worries. All thanks to you!

  4. yes! so proud of you! i bet it feels so great to have that behind you! it was a great 6- soon enough i’ll share the remaining 14 with you too! get it, guurl!

  5. If I lived down there I’d totally go to Blind Lady – can’t beat beer and pizza and the vibe of that place looks really cool!

So, funny that you had that reaction to your alarm Sat. because I had the same reaction Sunday. My alarm went off at 5am and I was completely confused as to why. Then I remembered I was supposed to go up to Irvine for Operation Jack.

  6. I agree, encouragement is key. We kinda have the same thing going on at the house right now. at 4:15(in the morning) you know there’s two other people waiting by the back door for you πŸ™‚ I need that……
Good job Nicolie!! Your going to kill the LV Marathon!!!
    Love you~
    Mom

  7. Love it! It is amazing what being held accountable by someone else can do to help you out! Awesome job powering through it! I’m gonna be in Vegas that weekend too! Not to race, just to get crazayyyy but I’m hoping to run into some running peeps!! πŸ™‚
