Let’s Get Reacquainted

In The Past Few Weeks I Have Gained Some New Readers!

Let me start by saying…

And thank you for stopping by. I will warn you that I am inconsistent, tend to ramble, and live in my own world known as “crazy.” Consider yourself warned.

Let’s get to know each other, shall we? (To my regular readers, maybe you will learn a few new things. Wait, probably not. But it sounded good, right?)

This is moi:

I am 32 (old in the running/blogging world, not old in real life), I love God, I am married, have 2 kids, a super rad dog, work a full time job in a crazy industry and I loooooove running.

But running does not always love me. Unfortunately I am not one of those people who can run a zillion miles a week and not get hurt. Nope. If you’re thinking, hey that sounds like me, awesome! We march to the same drum friend! If you are thinking crud, she is a wuss, then keep it to yourself πŸ™‚

My blog name came from my fantasy football league. My hubby and I were one of the first couples in his group of friends to have kids. My FF team name has been Haute Mama since my first child was born and it just stuck. I added the “running” when I started the blog and now you have HRM. Ta-da!

You can read about how I got started in my ME ME ME section. I have 3 races left in 2011 and am looking forward to an awesome year of running in 2012!

This is my hubs (also known as LD in blog land):

When he is not busy being an awesome husband and Dad he is on stage. I think I once said his life is prioritized as follows: God, Family, Texas Football, Music, Every other Texas Sport, and more Texas. Did I mention he is from Texas?

Here comes the shameless plug:

He sings in the band OF SONS AND GHOSTS. If you would like a free download (or two) click HERE and hook yourself up. They are playing a breast cancer benefit show tomorrow night and are nominated for the San Diego Raw Artist band of the year award. Pretty darn awesome.

Last but not least, my 2 kids and my fur baby:

The three of them are hilarious. My son could have a blog of his own. He loves having his picture taken and a LOT of funny things come out of his mouth. What do you expect from a 4 1/2 year old? My daughter lives in a tiara and all things sparkly. Total girl. Yes my doggy is smiling. She is used to having her picture taken. She is a great family dog and puts up with a lot. I mean, what other dog has to deal with something like this:

I know, poor girl. Don’t worry, she licked my daughter’s face off for this. Well played Abby, well played.

We will get back to discussing all things running and random tomorrow! Happy Friday Eve!

  1. I’ve been a reader for a while and still learned things. I didn’t know you had a dog or how you got your blog name. My husband used to be in a band, too. Drummer πŸ™‚ Your family is beautiful!

    Love posts like this!

    1. My dog is sych a trooper! She is getting close to 9 and wants to chill but the kids keep her going. I think it keeps her young πŸ™‚ Our hubbys the musicians! My hubs lived in Nashville after college and played music there before moving to CA. It would be funny if they knew one another!

  2. Well, I for one and am excited to be a new reader! Yes, it DOES seem like there are a lot of 25-year-olds dominating this sphere. However, I just turned 30 and am happy to see others in their 30s that are as into the blogworld as me! I cannot believe you just started running at the end of 2009 — that’s awesome! Cute family, awesome blog!

  3. Super excited to have found your blog! Except…..if you’re old for the blogging world, I don’t know where that leaves me. :\ I’ll be 44 veeerrrry soon. eek! Love all the pictures! I didn’t mention it the other day in the motivation post, but seeing you post about running on the TM in the morning is what got me back at it. I’ve had this stupid thing in my head that I can’t be serious about running if I don’t get out and run outside with the boogie man…hahaha! See…I live in the land of crazy too! πŸ˜‰

    1. 44 is young πŸ™‚ My hubby is getting ready to turn 40 and is not taking it well. I told him his 40s will be the best years of his life (says the lady getting ready to turn 33). Hope I am right!

The land of crazy is not a bad place to be! Majority of my runs are done on a TM. Unfortunately my schedule (probably like yours) does not permit me to run outside during the week. The only time I have is at 5 am (or earlier) and there is no way I am running outside in the dark alone. Nighttime is with my family so there goes that option. I get my long run done on Saturday and that is usually the only outside run. From time to time I squeeze in a run at lunch outdoors but these days they are few and far between. It is what we make of it right?!? It works for me but it may not work for others.

Looking forward to keeping up with you!

  4. Your kids are adorable.

Your marathon photo was from CIM? How funny. I’ve run it 5 times (my 6th will be this year). It is the only marathon I’ve run (yet). 2010 was the first time in a LONG time I didn’t run because I was pregnant. It’s a great race, perfect for a first time marathoner.

I think I saw when reading some past posts that your brother lives in Folsom? I live in El Dorado Hills …. and will be running Four Bridges this weekend. Small world.

I am finding it hard to run/train now with two kids (as my recent post details). After work runs are no longer an option I am finding so it looks like I might be joining you on the treadmill at 5 am … although I am nursing a 4 month old so we’ll see how long I can manage that one! HA

Oh and I am 34 (soon to be 35) yea … old-er in the blog world for sure. πŸ™‚

    1. Yesssss it was CIM! I am from Folsom (Oakridge was a rival, lol) so I went back home to run the race. LOVED.IT. I had a bad day personally, but loved the course and support and would do it again in an instant! I have a lot of friends running Four Bridges this weekend. My brother and SIL ran it last year and loved it. Very small world!

Man do I understand the nursing part. I had one of those itzbeen timers since my cell phone was unreliable. I remember after I would nurse I would set the timer and bring it to the gym with me so I knew how long I had before my little peanut would be awake again. It was crazy, but it worked. You know how it is when they are babies, you just find ways to make things work!

Love getting to know other running mamas πŸ™‚

    2. Super small world! I ran Four Bridges last year for the first time as part of a relay team. I live in Rocklin. πŸ™‚ I’m impressed that you are running it only 4mos after giving birth!

      1. Doh I replied under the wrong thread … oops.

runrmomma! It IS a small world! πŸ™‚ Rocklin is super close.

I ran CIM after my first daughter turned 7 months old … so for some reason I thought I could do it again with my second daughter who will only be 5.5 months come CIM morning.

I didn’t realize having TWO kids makes it harder to train. Four Bridges will definitely be a different race post baby than it was after my first …..

  5. Well I am from Jersey originally (I always say I am FROM Jersey but I live in Sacramento – well now EDH as of last November). Oakridge was a rival huh? haha They have a sweet track that I go and do speed work at in the evenings (thanks goodness for track lights).

I had forgotten how “uncomfortable” it gets running when nursing … when you’ve (ahem) been running for a while and it is getting close to feeding time! HA That is my biggest struggle in the mornings … my baby’s a snacker … not full on eater in the mornings. OUCH. πŸ™‚ Only running moms would get this….

  6. Nice! That is south of where I am from (Sussex County) but probably equally distant from NYC and Newark. Gotta love Newark airport! haha I love Jersey … I miss my Dunkin Donuts coffee!

  7. Even your bestie learned a fact about you today. I didn’t know where HRM came from, well besides the fact that you are exactly that A Haute Momma! Not to be confused with a MILF, we know how well that goes over. πŸ™‚

  8. So I’m not a new reader, but I totally didn’t know about your husband’s band. Going to check out those free downloads!

  9. I love it! I am a new reader…and felt compelled to comment because I’m a California girl married to a full blooded Texan and we moved to Dallas this past summer! Love your blog and you inspire me to be running just as much as I do now (if not more) after we have kids of our own!!!

    1. Ahhhhh! How funny! We have family in Dallas so the next time we are there we will have to have dinner or something πŸ™‚ I WISH I would have been running like this before kids- I probably would have traveled a lot more πŸ™‚

  10. yay! I didn’t know you were older than me! I’ll be 29 this year. you look like you’re 19! lol if you didn’t have kids I wouldn’t believe you. I don’t know that I have EVER gotten to see a pic of your beautiful pup! – the kids are cuties too, but I’ve seen them and LD before πŸ˜€

    Glad you posted.

  11. So, your husband’s band is pretty freaking good. It’s a tad harder alternative that I generally am used to (I listen to the more pop end of alternative like Phoenix, Two Door Cinema Club, Foster the People, etc), but they are talented. I am always impressed with local bands that have original songs!

  12. I’m a new reader (just the past 2 weeks) and I don’t even know how I stumbled across your blog, but I love it!! I, too, am 32 with two kiddos πŸ™‚ I didn’t realize I was “old” in the running blog world…eek!! Loved your last post on getting in those 20 miles!!! Way to go!

  13. Awww your babies are beautiful!!! I’m loving your blog so far! I was born and raised in San Diego! Its such a fantastic place to live! Can’t wait to read more!
